Process Paper
When I found out that the theme of this year's history day was "Turning Points in History" I knew that people would do the American Revolution or the invention of the Internet. I wanted to do something different. I was talking this over with my mom and she was recommending really great ideas but I felt like they were all too done before. So when I was really picking my event I wanted to do something that affected many people and many different aspects of our society.
Many of the other topics I could have chosen might have really only affected their one specific area. It Might have even revolutionized an entire area of study, but I wanted to chose a topic that would touch many different area. This was the most important factor in choosing a topic. But eventually, my decision was spurned from a place deep in my soul. My love for "Forrest Gump". That movie was a favorite of mine since I had seen it in 2007. I thought about all of the different aspects of the world it reached and knew that his was the topic for me.
My research process was mostly held online. I wanted to go the unconventional way and relate the Vietnam War Protests to things that you hadn't really suspected and I found that I couldn't really find the information in books. Therefore I found some really interesting articles online. My website focuses on the influence the war had on music and the effects of music on a generation lost. I also focused on the legal action in loco parentis-its development and fall during the sixties and seventies. I also focused on the effect the twenty sixth amendment had on the youth and their interest and involvement in the war and the protests. Creating my project mainly consisted of finding accurate pictures and making the website. This was probably the most fun of all of the parts, also the most challenging. Finding the articles and conducting the research was fairly easy, but presenting the research in a fun interactive way was pretty fun.
I think that my paper represents the theme of this year's National History Day very well . There are so many turning points in our history I think that I represented one in a very fun, creative, and informative way. My website was a great example of a major turning point in history. The Anti-War protests changed the way that music was spread, it changed the education system in so many ways, and it changed the major governing doctoring of the country. I think that if anything can be considered a major turning point in history, the anti-war protests are the prime example.
